Export and import text for translation, or spell checking
All text elements in a lesson can be exported to Microsoft Word or XLIFF (XML Localization Interchange File Format) format for easy translation. Translated files can then be imported into SmartBuilder to switch the lesson (or lesson copy) to the translated text. The text export / import feature can also be used for spell checking.
Export text
- Click the File menu.
- Select Translation › Export Text.
- In the Text Export window, click Browse to select the folder into which you want to save the exported text.
- In most cases, you can leave the Source Language unchanged (English). This language setting is sometimes used by specialist translation tools that use the XLIFF export format.
- Choose a File Type for the export: Word or XLIFF.
- Click Finish.
- From the Export Complete window, click View Text to open the text file.
Prepare file of translated text (Microsoft Word format)
- In the Word document that you exported from SmartBuilder, paste or type the translated text into the cells in the fourth column. Do not edit text in any of the other columns.
- Save a copy of your Word document. For example: “Project Management - French.doc.”
Import text
- Make a copy of your lesson so that you don’t overwrite the source language version with the language you are about to import. To do this, click the File menu and select Save As.
- Enter a filename and save your sb4 file.
- Click the File menu and select Translation › Import Text.
- From the Text Import window, click Browse and select the Word document you created earlier containing the translated text, then click Finish.
- The translated text will appear in your lesson.
